Timeline

  • June 1, 2018 – July 30, 2018. Second Call for Proposals (CFP). The second Call for Proposals (CFP) is opened for applicants who initially enrolled in the second call of Expressions of Interest. Of the 16 initial applications for the EOI, 11 were chosen to apply to the CFP stage.
  • March 1, 2018. The European Geothermal Innovation Award 2018 is awarded to the Geothermal Development Facility (GDF) Latin America, the first multi-donor climate initiative that offers risk mitigation for surface studies and appraisal drillings during the exploration phase of geothermal projects in Latin America. For more information, click here.
  • December 1, 2017 – January 31, 2018. Second Call of Expression of Interest (EOI). The second Round of the GDF opens with Call of Expression of Interest (EOI). 16 applications, which represent 7 of the 10 eligible countries, are received.
  • May 15, 2017 – July 24, 2017. First Call for Proposals (CFP). The Call for Proposals (CFP) is opened for applicants who initially enrolled in the EOI. 8 projects are selected for the CFP from 25 EOI applications. For more information, click here.
  • January 15 – February 28, 2017. First Call of Expression of Interest (EOI). The first Round of the GDF opens with Expression of Interest (EOI). 25 applications, which represent 9 of the 10 eligible countries, are received.
  • October 23 – 26, 2016. An introductory pre-application information workshop at the GEA Geothermal Energy Expo 2016, in Sacramento, CA.
  • April 26, 2016. KfW introduces the GDF at the World Bank/ESMAP GGDP Roundtable in Reykjavik, Iceland. KfW also announces and introduces IDA Fund Managers, LLC (IDA) as the selected fund manager for the facility. KfW names the key decision-makers within IDA: Mr. Alan Beard (Lead Fund Manager), Dr. Warren T. Dewhurst (Lead Geothermal Project Manager), and Mr. Chis McCormick (Senior Investment Officer).
  • December 8, 2014. KfW Development Bank organizes a side event at UNFCCC COP20 to launch the Geothermal Development Facility (GDF).
